County Cup Football Win!

The Excel Academy lifted the Under-12’s Staffordshire Schools County Cup after Alfie Oldfield’s crucial save in a nail-biting penalty shootout proved decisive in an exciting final played at St George’s Park.

The Academy went into the final having conceded 7 goals but scoring 22 in the competition. It was a very competitive game and Excel were unfortunate not to go in front during the first half, with Lucas Smith being denied by the framework of the goal.

Both teams defended extremely well, resulting in the game finishing as a 0-0 draw. Extra time saw no other goals but Christ Church also hit the post in the dying moments of the game.

The game went to penalties. Both teams converted their first 3 penalties until Alfie Oldfield made an outrageous save down to his right, tipping the ball onto the crossbar. Both teams again converted their next two penalties and then pressure then fell to Callum Dixon who very calmly slotted the winning penalty into the bottom right of the goal, clinching a 5-4 win for Excel.

Manager, Mark Tipping said: “The whole team showed so much passion and dedication in what was their most important game for the Academy so far. It was one of the tightest games I have ever managed but both teams missed simple chances that could have won the game. We had fantastic growth mind-set, we never gave up and we are extremely proud of the whole team.”

Principal, Darren Bishop said: “We are extremely proud to win such a prestigious cup! I would like to congratulate the team and coaches for all the hard work and effort they put in to become County Champions!”

Spring Term Maintenance Work

We are writing to notify you of work that will be carried out at the Academy over the coming weeks.

Starting on Monday 16 April statutory electrical inspection work will begin to be carried out. The work will take place in parts of the building every evening, Monday to Thursday, for approximately 20 working nights. The contractor will start at 6.30pm and finish when the Academy re-opens the following morning.

There will be no noise associated with the work - however there will be contractors on site and there will be lighting in some parts of the building during the night. The window blinds will be closed when the contractor is working so there should be little or no light emitted from the classrooms. Once on site there will be no need for the contractors to leave site during the night so again there should be no disturbance from that perspective.

If you have any concerns regarding the work or experience any problems at all, please don´t fail to contact us at the academy on 01782 882700 or e-mail us at enquiries@excelacademy.info.

Yours faithfully
MrS Goodwin
